10-day Somatic Meditation Retreat
With Heather McFarland and Kyle Brooks.
We invite you to join us for a 10-day journey into the world of somatic meditation. This is an opportunity to step out of the rational mind’s neurotic, second-hand interpretation of life and into the direct experience of the flow of your life. This is the aliveness that animates not only your own body and mind, but all of this existence. Our intention in offering this retreat is to share simple, practical, accessible methods and teachings that when applied skillfully and diligently, can quickly open you to deeply embodied states of radiant presence, love and inner stability.
You will enjoy daily practice sessions, short talks introducing the techniques, relevant practical teachings on meditation. There will be ample free time for contemplation, reflection and integration of the practice, all under the guidance of experienced
“Within my body are all the sacred places of the world… I have not encountered another temple as blissful as my own body.”
–Saraha (of the 84 Mahasiddhas)
Embodiment means to feel directly your experience of yourself, of others, of the world.
Our modern culture emphasizes the mental domain. As a result, we are highly disembodied, living in a bubble of thoughts, opinions, judgments, and concerns. Living in this way, focusing mostly on the past or the future creates mild yet constant emotional and nervous tension and amplifies our inner sense of isolation, restlessness and dissatisfaction.
The journey from mental abstraction to embodied presence; from anxiety and agitation to a relaxed, trusting openness to life, is directly accessible to anyone with interest and requires very little theory or intellectual study.
The somatic practices offered in this course come from the Tibetan Vajrayana (Tantric) Buddhist tradition and have been skillfully adapted for modern culture by Reggie Ray, a direct student of the influential Tibetan Buddhist master Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
